Procurement and Similar Transactions
Attorneys and staff in the Office of University Counsel spend considerable time related to University contract transactions. They work with University contract processing offices (such as Business and Finance, Purchasing, Technology Management, and Sponsored Programs and Research Administration-Urbana) to advise administrators about regulatory compliance and terms and conditions.
In some cases, legal counsel approval is required or counsel assistance is needed to expedite transactions. The Office of University Counsel assisted with and supported recent amendments to the General Rules to streamline the contract review processes and significantly reduce the total number of contracts requiring individual review. While these changes significantly decreased time and effort devoted to the review of individual contracts in Urbana and Springfield, attorneys in the Office of University Counsel still work extensively with the administrative offices in managing contract review processes, interpreting laws and regulations, and advising on complex contract transactions.
