Matt Sullard

Assistant University Counsel

Matt Sullard joined the Office of University Counsel in 2024 after serving as the University’s Associate Director for FOIA Administration 2022-2024. His areas of responsibility in the Office of University Counsel include FOIA, subpoenas, Procurement Code, purchasing, contracts, ethics, FERPA, UIPD, and the Clery Act. Prior to joining the University, Matt was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Champaign County’s Civil Division, and was a prosecutor for four years before that. Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Wichita State University, where he was active in Student Government as Vice President and a Senator, and his law degree from Washburn University School of Law, where he interned in the Small Business & Transactional Clinic and served on the Faculty Recruitment Committee and as a Model UN Judge. He is a member of NACUA, the American Bar Association, and the Champaign County Bar Association, and is licensed to practice law in Illinois.
