Rhonda R. Perry
Deputy University Counsel
As Deputy University Counsel, Rhonda is a key member of the Office of University Counsel leadership team and assists with oversight of all office operations, personnel, and legal strategies. She supports the University Counsel in providing advice and counsel to University System leadership and University administration in all practice areas, including claims and disputes, governance, policy development and investigative matters, as well as oversight of outside counsel. She was named Deputy University Counsel in March 2024 following 18 years of stellar service in the Office of University Counsel. Rhonda joined the office in 2006, first as a member of the Urbana legal team, where she worked on a wide variety of subject matter areas. In 2014, Rhonda was appointed Campus Legal Counsel for the Springfield university, where she served with distinction prior to her appointment as Deputy University Counsel. Rhonda received her undergraduate degree and her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois. Before joining the University Counsel staff, Rhonda gained value experience working as an assistant city attorney for the City of Champaign, in private practice, and in the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office.
